(I work the floor at an independently-owned menswear store. The owner, my boss, spends a lot of time at the shop, and tries to keep prices as low as possible to help our city’s large homeless population get good job interview clothes. A clearly homeless man is wandering around the store. The other patrons are giving him looks.)
Customer:
“Excuse me, sir?”
Me:
“Yes, ma’am?”
Customer:
“I think you may want to call security. That… bum over there, he keeps feeling the suits and muttering to himself. I’m just sure he’s planning to steal one.”
Me:
“Well, ma’am, I think that’s quite unlikely.”
Customer:
“Oh, come on, you know how they are! I mean, I’d keep an eye on him even if he wasn’t homeless!”
(The homeless man in question happens to be Hispanic.)
Me:
“We don’t discriminate here, ma’am.”
Customer:
“Well, I’m sure the owner would want to hear about this!”
(I give in and call him over. The customer explains her concerns. As a black man, my boss isn’t happy with her racism, but agrees to talk to the homeless man.)
Owner:
“Excuse me, sir, are you finding what you need?”
Homeless Man:
“Well, not really. I’m hoping for something versatile in a dark or navy wool, but most of the options in my size are cut American style instead of European, which fits me a little better. Not to mention they’re all pinstriped, which I really don’t have the build for, you know?”
Owner:
“I… yes, I understand. I think we may have some options over here, if you’ll follow me. How did you know all that?”
Homeless Man:
“Back before I lost my job, I used to be really into this stuff. I’m not looking for anything fancy, just something I can use to look good for a job interview later today.”
(My boss helps him find something he likes, and comes to the counter with him. The suit is priced at $87.)
Homeless Man:
*digging in his pockets* “Hang on, I think I’ve got enough.”
Owner:
*to me* “Take my card. I’m buying it for him.” *to the homeless man* “Here. The suit’s yours, on one condition. After your interview today, you come back and apply for a job here too. Got it?”
Homeless Man:
“I… oh my God, thank you. Thank you so much.”
(Two years later, that formerly-homeless man is my manager, and has a little girl with his new wife—the owner’s sister.)

Help Me Stay in University!
I always feel guilty coming to tumblr for help, but with the advice of a few close friends, I decided to make this post.

I’m a University student, recently accepted into a program that will benefit me greatly in the future for my career goals - I aim to be an early childhood educator for special needs students after growing up with an autistic younger brother.
However, my father cut me off financially because he is homophobic. He is unwilling to pay off the rest of my tuition for the last semester because I am attracted to the same sex. Even with financial aid from the state, unfortunately, I still owe my school about $2000.
I would need to pay the rest of this money before the end of August, otherwise my admission into the University will be terminated.
While I am able to pay $200 with my savings, the remaining amount still needs to be compensated. I work 8 hours a week on minimum wage and my mother cannot support me due to her own financial obligations to my other siblings who aren’t adults.
Please, please, please - if you could donate to my cause, that would mean the world to me. I’d be forever grateful for any amount donated, whatever the amount. If you cannot donate, please signal boost this. I find it difficult asking strangers for help, again, but at the moment I am desperate to continue working towards my dream and my goals.
I also offer artistic compensation for certain donated amounts. My gofundme is here -  more information about my situation has been provided there in length. Along with this I am also offering commissions, so if you are interested, please contact me via the tumblr messaging system!
If you’d rather donate to me via paypal (which I highly prefer since gofundme does charge its fees) or some other convenience, that’s fine as well. My contact and paypal email is yakfrosty@gmail.com.

Wow guys, I’m in awe. collectively just in the first day I’ve raised $358 for my cause, and I’m in tears right now because i’m really, incredibly thankful to those few that contributed to this fund.
I really really appreciate everyone who has signal boosted so far and I am especially grateful to those that donated money - you all know who you are, and I’m indebted to you.
However, I still have a long way to go, and would appreciate any further signal boosting of my issue at hand. Thank you so much!

Update #2:
Gofundme always charges processing fees (7.9% plus $.30 per donation) so that the site can make money, of course, so I added an extra hundred for the goal in case my goal is actually reached in the alotted time period I have left. I’m not trying to scam people out of an extra hundred dollars, in case you were wondering.
As far as money goes I’ve raised $406, including paypal money sent to me and the gofundme amount that I’ve already raised.
I’d like to thank everyone again for being so generous and helping me out in a time of need. Hopefully I will reach my goal in time!! 8)

Three years today since my dad died. Shame he never knew me as an adult (I was 19) because I’m a bloody great one. He died of a sudden, out-of-nowhere stroke while I was at VidCon and he was at home in London. He was out of it straight after but still kind of there and then he died a couple of days later. 1 in 5 strokes are fatal & annually, worldwide, approx 15 million people have a stroke. To help work towards making these statistics less depressing, read up on The Stroke Association here: http://www.stroke.org.uk

Rosianna is a bloody good adult.
Rosianna was one of the first readers of Looking for Alaska, has been a nerdfighter since the very first vlogbrothers video was uploaded, and now works as my assistant (although that job title rather underplays her importance to me and to the nerdfighter community).
Three years ago today, she became the first teenager ever to read The Fault in Our Stars. Her dad had just died, and she was stuck at Vidcon. I never imagined then that she would become such a bloody good adult, or that she’d become such a close friend and collaborator.
But I have always known Rosianna to be a person of excellent judgement, blistering intelligence, and great competence. And while I know that her dad would have so much to be proud of today, he had much to be proud of then as well.
